Tugtar

Tabhair + the preposition ar = Tabhair ar = to be called or named

Example:

Tugtar Brian orm, I’m called Brian, or
Tugtar Máire uirthi, She’s called Mary, or
Tugtar bosca ar an rud sin, That thing is called a box,

and the application in the story about the journalists:
Tugtar iriseoirí ar na daoine (a scríobhann…), the people (who write…) are called journalists … somebody calls or names ...

That is the present tense, autonomous or impersonal form. Check under "Sb" in the vb. tugtar.

Of course, you realize that this impersonal can be used in other tenses as well:

Tugadh amadán orm inné, Someone called me an idiot yesterday, or I was called an idiot yesterday.

And finally,

Tugadh freak ar an mbuchaill a bhris an fhuinneog inné.
